What You’ll Learn

Your Happy Child: Emotional regulation, anxiety

Parents want their children to be happy.  To be happy means that the child is coping, achieving success, and participating in age-appropriate tasks.  Happiness is not always possible nor healthy – we are emotional beings where fluctuations in emotions are normal.  We should be concerned when children find it challenging to self-regulate, are anxious, or feel they are not coping.  Learn how to check your child’s emotional regulation, anxiety, and coping skills.  We discuss strategies to use to help your child.  These are targeted at home and are easy to implement in family life.

Your Focused Child: Attention, organise belongings

A child with attention deficits has obvious difficulty focusing on tasks. However, all children can be distracted at times. They find it challenging to complete tasks in the given, might procrastinate, and often lose belongings or forget necessary homework or books. Additionally, they might be oppositional when asked to participate in chores. Parents generally find it challenging to cope with and understand these children. Learn more about the behaviour and how to implement easy-to-follow strategies to help your child.

Your Social Child: Communication, making friends

A social child has good communication skills, quickly makes friends, and enjoys the company of others. Depending on personality and sensory needs, we all have different social characters – some want the company of many, others prefer small groups. We are concerned about a child’s social skills when they avoid others or misbehave in groups. You will learn more about play development, reading non-verbal communication cues, strategies to make friends, and how to support your child in social settings.

Your Able Child: Fine and gross motor skills, coordination

Struggles with coordination impact your child when participating in sports, handwriting, arts, as well as participating with peers in groups. It will make using eating utensils challenging, tying shoelaces difficult and impact bike riding. The impact is on most tasks of the child’s life and can create poor self-esteem and oppositional behaviour. You will learn how to identify and understand these problems, find strategies and activities to use at home, and when to find professional support for your child.

The book is available at Amazon. “Why we like Sensory Stimulation: Everyone always talk about stimulating your child, but this book gives you practical ways in which to do this, as well as an understanding of why stimulation is necessary.” Review in Living and Loving, parenting magazine

My Spirited Child invited Marga to present at the conference in Adelaide, 2022.

Marga was one of 14 professionals to present at the summit of The Parent Journey, 2022

Stories of Hope is an e-book authored by Marga. She shares true stories of kids making progress in therapy.

Marga has been working with Anna (and our family) to identify the underlying causes to her learning difficulties and has developed a customised therapy plan to support her needs. Anna adored Marga and looked forward to her weekly sessions and after only a few weeks we were seeing a noticeable change in her attitude to school and pleasure she was getting from learning. Her learning journey as well as self-esteem has been greatly enhanced by the ideas and techniques that Marga has introduced into our lives both now and for into the future. – Anna’s Mum

Just a short note to Marga our caring therapist – No matter how negative the behaviour and how dismal I would feel, you without fail always high lighted a positive. You kept the light at the end of our tunnel glowing! – Julie

I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to work with Marga. A long time ago our doctor told us (after the diagnoses of ASD was made) that we have to find the right therapist who will be able to bring out the best in Aaron. He told us to change over and over until we found the right one; I believe my prayers were answered when we found you, Marga. We will never forget you, I know Aaron won’t. – Melanie
